Mission Statement
The mission of the Dart Foundation is simply to help those from some of the most distressed communities, navigate very complicated real-life hurdles, that prevent them from enjoying a life most take for granted.
The Sheriff’s office regularly comes in contact with seniors, children, the homeless, and the needy, who with minor intervention can overcome obstacles that would overwhelm the average person.
The organization would act as a resource for interventions ranging from food and clothing, to job preparedness and mental well-being.
There is no way to underscore enough, that with a small contribution, big things can change. We can change our communities for the better, in real objective ways.
About The Foundation
The goal of the Thomas J. Dart Foundation is to support programs benefiting the Reduction in Violence across Cook County and that Improve Quality of Life for citizens by working with community leaders, Chicago residents, and populations impacted by the criminal justice system.
A three-pillar framework has been set in place to work hand-in hand to achieve this goal.
The first being “Surge Enforcement”. These actions are targeted towards reducing violent crimes and improving quality of life across Cook County and Chicago.
The second is “Community Engagement and Enforcement.” Engaging with residents to address their concerns, and reporting back results, creates empowerment.
The third is “Community Based Programming.” Based on feedback from within communities, the Foundation will create and support innovative programs in Cook County Jail and the community to engage and empower its residents.
"Together, we are making a difference in improving the quality of life for the good residents of these neighborhoods."

About
Thomas J. Dart
Thomas J. Dart has had a long career fighting to help protect the most vulnerable members of our society.
Starting as state prosecutor, he helped initiate a massive public corruption investigation in the impoverished village of Ford Heights, which led to the indictments of multiple police officers.
Then as state legislator hundreds of bills were sponsored by Tom Dart. These bills demanded accountability from state officials, while also showing a willingness to take on state bureaucracy. Tom re-wrote child welfare bills, wrote the state’s Sexually Violent Predators Commitment Act and led the state’s first-ever study connecting homelessness and prostitution.
Now, as Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart has brought an aggressive, yet innovative approach to law enforcement. Since becoming Sheriff in 2006, he has introduced sweeping changes at the Cook County Jail, the nation’s largest single site jail, aggressively re-structured the Sheriff’s Police force, and improved operations of the Court Services Department.
